Heavy Metal

Heavy metal (literally heavy metal in Italian) is a musical genre derived from hard rock, which developed between the late sixties and early seventies, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States. The groups associated with the genre, initially inspired by psychedelic rock, blues rock and acid rock currents, gave rise to a sound style characterized by guitar distortions, solos and hard and strong rhythms. There are various styles and sub-genres of heavy metal, some more melodic and commercial and others with an extreme and typically underground sound.
