Progressive rock in Italy is a progressive genre that developed in Italy in the early seventies. It can certainly be said that, together with the singer-songwriter phenomenon, it is one of the most important episodes of Italian pop music, which has enjoyed success and consideration even beyond national borders, especially with the Area, the Arti e Mestieri, the Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, the Goblin, Le Orme, the New Trolls, the Formula 3, the Premiata Forneria Marconi, the Osanna, Alphataurus, Il Balletto di Bronzo and the Murple. In the early seventies the musical genre was more simply called "Italian pop".
